The Daily Order

The sun rises.
To be more exact, the earth rotates and orbits.
People wake and leave their warm beds.
People who are ill and tired
contemplate and recollect.
And the prophets sit up and cross their legs.
And all, in their own way, seek
the unequivocal answers, ask
the unanswerable questions.

The sun sets.
The earth turns away.
The sun returns to the same things
it has so recently left. It is different
and not different. The sun warms and cools,
wakens and eases. Without memory,
without mind, it stays on the meridian.

Not yet and not then.
And everyone takes a hand
in the day.
