In the Parallel Universe

In my other life, I marry the man who knows the names
of all the grasses. We have three children—one for joy,
one for solace, one for remembrance.

In my other life, I never stop writing. All my siblings
love me and cats grow old with their owners.

There, I am a patient person. The word ‘lost’ refers only
to mittens, and ‘cold’ only to snow.

In my other life, I breathe self-confidence. I am a lucky soul—
I let light pass through me and believe there really is
a unifying theory of the universe—it simply hasn’t hit us yet.

In my other life, I introduce myself as Zeno, but everyone
calls me Poppy, even Matthew McConaughey who is a close,
personal friend.
