A native of California, Laurel Feigenbaum feels fortunate to have been able to take advantage of all it offers, climate, culture, education and natural beauty. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Laurel holds a BA in English Literature and MA in Educational Research and Psychology. After family and careers in education and business she gathered what she refers to as late-life courage and began writing in class and workshop settings. Writing for her is a way of exploring and coping with the often absurd world in which we live, and the inevitable changes that come with a long life or any life. Matriarch of her family now, she is a mother of three, grandmother of seven, great grandmother of five, and a widow after sixty-six years of marriage. She currently lives in Marin County across the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco which supports among other things, a large, active, poetry community of which she’s a member participating in workshops, readings, the Marin Poetry Center’s yearly anthology and other events. She is a past board member of the Marin Poetry Center, author of The Daily Absurd, 2015 and Matrimony, 2020. Her work also appears online in publications such as The Amsterdam Quarterly, The Marin Poetry Center Anthology, Silkworm, and The Poetry Box. Laurel credits her interest in poetry to Wordsworth and her father who loved word play, and often quoted lines he admired or found useful. Everything she learned about the craft of writing poetry comes from the generous support, feedback and encouragement of her fellow poets who have become in the process, life- long friends.
