The Pie is Now

It’s silly to talk to the peach tree
about future pies, that’s why
we have portfolio managers
for those who want to get ahead
which can be hell on a good night’s sleep.
Birds ease into the morning,
they take it one sunrise at a time. Einstein
was interested in the future
but said the speed of light being constant,
we’d have to live into it.
For the Black-headed Grosbeak,
who’s in my fruit tree
the pie is now. So I’m learning to live
into seventy-one with a bird
whose only plan is flying
between peaches.
