First Day at School

At school today, my very first day,
I learned it’s a place where they make you play,
Like A is for Apple and B for Bat
An C is to see some kind of a Cat.

I learned how pencils smell and the taste,
Though you mustn’t eat it, of library paste,
And how to add two take away-two,
And how to mix all the colors for blue.

And America God-bless our school,
And hippity-hop and the Golden Rule,
And how to draw with a piece of chalk
So it makes a wonderful screechy squawk!
