With the gas lamps alight
Is a wonderful sight
For the eye to see
With its clubs and pubs and bars
And the sleepy Thames reflecting the stars,
London at night
Whether sober or tight
Is a sight
That Americans die to see,
From the naphtha flares that glow
In the markets of Soho
To the far less exotic
And more patriotic
Restraint of Pimlico,
London's a place
That your heart can embrace
If your heart is free
And prone to be
Receptive to delight,
Rome was once gay
In a decadent way
But were sure that it never was quite
Like London at night.
