The Way of a Pilgrim

If you say the same phrase enough times
it's syncopates with your footsteps,
your breath, the blood in your neck.
Language repeated can lose or compound
meaning. Like the aftershocks
of an earthquake. Like waking
and responding aloud to a figure
from your dream. You reply to what
you can and cannot see. You do
not have to believe.
