Summer’s Nearly Over
Summer’s nearly over
Autumn’s coming on
Every year it seems as though
It doesn’t last as long.
Once when we were younger
We knew not time nor fears
But when you’re getting older
Seems you’re rushing through your years.
See the swallows gathering
Sitting on the wire
Soon we will be roasting
Chestnuts by the fire
Guy Fawkes night and fireworks
Things we loved to share
I told you time was passing
But you didn’t seem to care.
Time marches through the calendar
Oh what a crazy girl you are
To think that you could savour yet
Your holidays in Somerset
All the leaves are falling
Making such a mess
Now it’s time to put away
Your silly summer dress
Overcoats and wellies
Are the order of the day
Maybe it’s not snowing –
But it’s not so far away.
Autumn’s nearly over
Winter’s coming on
Soon we will be hearing
The carol singers’ song
Christmas cake and mistletoe
They will be here soon –
You may think that it’s morning
But it’s really afternoon!
