Advent
Written for the Christmas meeting of the Women’s Federation

Comfort and Christmas glory for us all—
With harp sounds in the air:
	Singing; yes, music everywhere.
Must the encircling hope be small?

Advent: the Advent-wreath,
A hoop of green on which the candles stood,
Had large ones for the Sundays.
The ever-circling wish, the evergreen,
Meant that a day was coming.

	Must Advent mean
Some are content to have the circle small?

“We are not wise or good.”
Could not more ardent caring mean
	We may have brotherhood?
It could. We know it could.
