C. D. Wright

Enters a silence that never reverses itself

                                 What was he reading

i/m preferred not to speak to the press

i/m preferred not to eat with the warden

i/m preferred to see his own pastor

i/m asked that his mother not be present

i/m asked that his eyes be given to another

Today it’s going to be hot as blue blazes
And tonight it will be very very warm
Tomorrow it’s going to be hot as blue blazes
And tomorrow night it will be very very warm

Tuesday’s just as bad

We must rest now it’s going to be a scorcher

Before you know it the sun is coming up and everything is
                      moving clockwise
is your blood headed in the right direction
