Dome of the Muses

The sky opens as blossom dark
A canopy covering lover and loved
Under stars and trees in a moonless park,
Where roses muse on those war proved.
Ritual dance of a tragic choir
Reenacts a staghunt through copse and dell
Begun by bloodhounds fleet and dire,
Of a man dragged down, torn by nymphs fell.
Marriage of scent and soul in bliss
Of congress blessing draws down supple
And pure, to chasten hearts wondrous
Of beasts and life prove intelligible.
Beauty of woman through manly worth
Sophia's temple exalts on Earth.
