I Wakened This Morning

I wakened this morning at seven o’clock
and knew from the start I was in fo a shock.
I couldn’t help hearing, right there in my room,
the teakettle whistle a tune to the broom.

I looked out the window, and saw in the sky,
an ox and an octopus sauntering by.
The sun was bright blue, and the moon wore a crown,
the stars were still out, and they bounced up and down.

A gaggle of ganders was dancing a waltz,
as oysters were turning adroit somersaults.
Begonias were marching on gala parade,
while robins applauded and drank lemonade.

The trees were engaged in a wild football game,
they lacked any feet, but they played all the same—
whenever this happens, I know right away
its going to be an unusual day.
