Go Fetch It!

Intelligence in animals is often measured by their capacity
to amuse themselves when alone. In this they resemble
poets. We too know how to bury the bone and then return
surprised that we have found it. We have no tail to wag,
but when the Muse says Bark!—we bark. We roll over.
We’re as happy as the dog who gets to ride in the car.
