I have a pet orangutan,
the two of us play chess.
I always won when we began,
but now I’m winning less.
He’s learning from experience
to beat me at this game.
I cannot quite keep up with him,
my skills remain the same.

His strategy grows stronger,
and he’s making better moves.
He almost never blunders,
every day his game improves.
So though I do not like it,
I admit, reluctantly,
its apparent my orangutan
is cleverer than me.
