Hunter’s Moon

Play of sunlight and shadow,
the gift of early afternoon
among the intertwining
grapevines and morning glory,
before November’s leaf fall
while sparrows flit and flirt
in and out of the wisteria.

It is all one flowing dance
of movement and activity
under the taut canopy’s
clear sky and cloudless pale blue
before tonight’s spill of stars
make their far-off light show
in the wake of the hunter’s full moon.
