Absence is not only not being here
or there, but also leaving things
out or unsaid, empty spaces
between words or music.

Some of us are born and raised in
in such empty spaces
outlined on maps where absence
finds itself at home.

Absence might well be defined
as dust taking time to settle down
as car wheels vanish out of sight
between dusk and darkness.
