The poet is a person who walks away
from a broken party alone and goes
to keep his rendezvous with a chosen star.

Don’t you know that all earthly ambition
can be cut in two as easily as a fruit
that reveals at its center a star?

Remember those times, sick in childhood,
when sleep came to your bed in the night
wearing the face of a friendly star?

And don’t forget those nights of love
when you discovered in the darkness between
her breasts the shadow of a blue star.

Sometimes when your life falls into a well,
you can still find in the dark water at
the bottom the reflection of a star.
