Rising sun circled
by partial rainbow red-orange-yellow.
Bursts of effulgence
to either side,
thickenings of the arc —
triple sun flashing
through arctic air crystals
as if behind the circle
there’s a larger sun
bulging out from the edges,

Among us. he was like that.

Corona flares
from the perimeter, inside
is dusky blue.
Think of all the eyes
their different positions on earth
taking in this wonder.
White light pouring
off the edges into limitlessness —
is that what Nelson Mandela
is experiencing now?
Think of the light of Mandela
bursting in all those hearts.
