Presence

We all disappear from time to time,
we absent ourselves from rooms,
from schools, from one another,
but mostly from ourselves
from the necessity of silence
and solitude, without which
we are our own ghosts haunting
ourselves day and night in memories
that never cease to torment
and tease us, but when we are present,
it is enough, for we possess
the treasure of the ages

and to those who remain absent
we owe nothing but all of our love.
