Holidays

Holidays were made for lonely people.
I always meet the best of these
when holidays are near.
Rented rooms become the place to go,
                                            not fireworks
or carnivals
                   or musical parades,
but rented rooms with granite basins
and people who forget your name
before you finish going down the stairs.

Holidays mean the most
when you’re celebrating
what you’ve found yourself.

Love is a season
and holidays like signposts
mark the time.
