Dan Bellm

Psalm

redeemable, forgiven, blessed,
by what right—only by
wanting—

	to have done
enough, to have done what is right,
or not—

emptied out
to make room for the unasked for,
that the soul might live—

red poppies still bowed down
on narrowest curving stems
after the rain has passed,

still staring
at the darkened ground,
heedless of the light they wear—
